Important Dates

  • Thur April 1, 2010 (6 PM): Registration Deadline

Registration & Payment

DEADLINE:

  • Thursday, April 1, 2010 by 6:00 PM
  • In person (with all required forms completed in full) to Joyce Lam*
  • By online registration NOW OVER

REGISTRATION FEE:

  • Non-refundable registration fee of $35.00 per Team
  • Fee must be submitted by Thursday April 1, 2010, 6 PM PST
  • Late fee after 6 PM (Thursday April 1): $50
  • Online payment at www (preferred)
  • Cash or cheque will be also accepted – in person to Joyce Lam. (Please make cheques payable to: Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre.)
  • Online payment will incur a $2 surcharge ($35 + $2).

TEAM LEADER:

  • Each team must designate a leader who will be the sole representative for all communications between the Team and the Etch-YOUR-Sketchoff organizers and to accept any awards on behalf of their team.

Eligibility

  1. Competition is open to BC residents only.
  2. Each team may comprise of a maximum of 7 members, including Performer(s) and/or Writer(s), Director(s), and Producer(s), excluding a Stage Manager.
  3. Of the writers, directors, producers, 50% of the Team must be of Asian heritage*.
  4. Of the writers, directors, producers and performers, 50% or more of the Team must be of Asian heritage*.
  5. At least one principal performer must be of Asian heritage*.
  6. The writers, directors, producers and performers can participate as a member on only one Team.
  7. Teams must provide their own props, costumes and audio (if applicable).
  8. Executive members of VACT are ineligible to compete.

Rules & Regulations

  1. A designated member of each Team must register their list of Team members.
  2. Based on the order in which they registered, Team Leaders will book an appointment for Monday April 12 to draw their creative elements, select their preferred tech rehearsal time slot and sign a waiver.
  3. Each Team may have a maximum of 7 members, comprising of writers, directors, production members and/or performers, excluding a Stage Manager. Of these members, 50% of the Team must be of Asian* heritage.
  4. Each Team must write and perform a minimum of 2 sketches for the duration of no less than 6 minutes to a maximum of 10 minutes. (No standup comedy routines or monologues will be accepted.)
  5. Each sketch must contain a minimum of 2 performers.
  6. All sketches must be original and created between April 12 and April 26, 2010.
  7. One sketch must incorporate one of the 2 drawn elements.
  8. One sketch must incorporate a minimum of 1 minute of singing.
  9. Each Team must provide a team photo to VACT by April 12, for publicity purposes.
  10. Two script copies of each sketch must be submitted to VACT by April 27 at the Tech Rehearsal.
  11. Etch-YOUR-Sketchoff!#$%!! will only accept a maximum of 8 sketch comedy teams, based on a first-come-first-served basis.

Definition of Asian Heritage

  1. Asian heritage refers to people from the Far East (e.g. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese), Southeast Asia (e.g. Cambodian, Filipino, Indonesian, Laotian, Vietnamese, and Malaysian) and the Indian Subcontinent (e.g. Punjabi, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi, and Pakastani).
  2. Asian heritage is determined by race or colour, not by place of birth or nationality.
